|Passages driven: Brünig, Grimsel, Simplon, Lukmanier, Oberalp
We met at the Mövenpick Restaurant in Sihlbrugg at 8am. Because we got on our way with a little delay we wanted to save time and took the autobahn via Luzern and Brünig. In Lungern we made our first coffee break in a lakeside restaurant. After that we drove over the Brünig and headed towards Meiringen on the other side. Without stopping we climed the Grimselpassage. Here we drove along the infamous artifical lakes and reached the peak where we made a deserved rest. Without delay we continued down towards the Vallis. As we reached Goms we had reached our lunch restaurant a real quiet spot away from the main road. With our 'batteries' charged we headded down the Goms to the town of Brig. After a little stop at a gas station we took on the Simplon and reached finally Domodossola. Here the most sceenic part of our trip started; Across the beautiful Val Vigezzo to Malesco and through the very narrow Valle Cannobina to the town with the same name right on the shore of Lago Maggiore. From here we only had to drive a small distance to Brissago where our hotel was located. First everybody need a cooling and refreshing swim in the pool. We even had a lavish and very tasty dinner right here at the pool-side bar which also featured a tremendous view over the lake. Certainly the party crowd continued with a trip to the bars in Ascona.
After breakfast and 'damage' compensation a new beautiful day started for great driving. We decided it would be worth while to take a detour to the Lago di Vogorno. Here the dam wall got it's fame from the James Bond movie „Golden eye“. If you had the 'guts' there was the opportunity to take a 220 meter „Bungy Jump“. Most decided just to look down would be enough of an adrenalin rush for the day.
We drove off towards the Lukmanier and took our early lunch in one of the most original Grottos of the Ticino. Luky us for not stopping later; after we got back on the road it soon started raining. After reaching the peak we descended towards Disentis, where we had to replenish our body heat with coffee and tea. One last passage remained the Oberalp. Unfortunately a lot of rain accompanied us. Even two bikers had to stop in one of the tunnels. Our final stop was at the autobahn restaurant near Altdorf where everybody headded home individually. I would like to thank all participants. I enjoyed to organise this mountain drive.
